Shower Tray - build platform?

Stupid builder finally came back to put the waste in. He inisted he couldn't do it until we bought the shower tray. I bought the shower tray, then he was 'busy' for two months until we booked someone else and told him we would charge him the extra. Then someone came round the next day. I was not around when the wastes got fitted, but the shower waste is at skirting board level. The tray I bought, and which was there to look at, is a stone resin tray, with high edges. So the waste pipe would normally run under the floor boards yes? So my options are

  1. Chuck the shower tray and buy a new one with riser kit (bye bye 100).
  2. Build a platform for the tray to sit on out of 2x4 and marine ply and put skirting across the front (although our skirting is MDF and will not enjoy getting damp).

Any other thoughts? I'm also a bit confused about what I bed it down on, cement or some kind of silicon sealant? It's bloody heavy and the intention is to get it in then tile.
