Mix and match sofas

We have a small victorian sitting room, wood burner stove, floor length curtains, neutral carpets, bookshelving in alcove etc.

We have a small John Lewis groucho sofa in Walnut www.johnlewis.com/halo-groucho-leather-sofa-range/p88079 and need to furnish the rest of the room. We have space for one more two-seater, and an arm chair in window.

Am I right that getting an idenitcal groucho would be a no-no?

If I get a new 2-seater fabric sofa, should I make sure the armchair is from the same range, or would the room 'take' three different styles?

Does any colour go with Walnut leather? I'm thinking dark grey.

Any advice, anyone sucessfully mixed and matched leather and fabric and want to upload a photo?

If you like the sofa I think it would fine to get another. I wouldn't get a matching chair though. And I would probably go for green, red or cream with brown leather. Or some sort of striped fabric is

I like this sofa and think another one would be fine, so would a different one with matching armchair. I am a bit dubious about dark grey and think a more purposeful choice might be appropriate.
If you have identical sofas then I think pattern for the chair....this could be tartan, stripes or something more funky depending on your style.

more purposeful choice I love that!

Yes, grey is my default because all the sofas I like seem to come in that colour.

Carpets are greige, wall colour is thimblecase (a warm pinky grey) and the curtains are a shabby heather colour.

I think a matching sofa and a different chair would be nice. I wouldnt get 3 the same.

Plum armchair! Lovely :)

I would be inclined to look for an interesting texture for the fabric chair - maybe corduroy or velvet, if practical.

HamAndPlaques · 01/07/2014 20:58

And yes, plum / aubergine / burgundy would look fabulous.

Sofasofa have some patchwork chairs, you could go a little wild with the chair and more sensible with the sofa. Love the idea of a broad striped corduroy!

Thanks all. Well I took everyone's advice and chose the sofa in Barra Plain Finn, and the armchair in Barra Check Finn (all from Sofas and Stuff). Can't wait til delivery!

okay, exact sofa style vs colour combinations aren't shown on the website, but you get the gist from the images below:

Single chair = www.sofasandstuff.com/products/holmfirth/large-sofa/fitted/barra-check/finn/

We have 2 large sofas in a 'chenille' fabric but my armchairs are leather, used to be brown leather but now swapped for red leather ones. I like the mixed look, coordinates but not too matchy.
