UK-wide property search?

shelldockley · 24/06/2014 10:18

Does anyone know of a way to search for properties for sale in the whole of the uk, in one search? I've tried Rightmove, Zoopla and Primelocation and the most you can search is a whole county. I have a grand plan, and want to know what my money can get me uk wide Grin

this would probably produce way too many options for the websites to show.

if you are happy to share the grand plan, perhaps the cumulative wisdom of mumsnet can help?

shelldockley · 24/06/2014 11:30

I did think it might be a bit much but I'm quite specific Grin

Ok, the grand plan, going in with 2 members of my family to buy a 6 bed house to run as a B&B, for under £300k!! Don't think there'll be too many, plus preferably detached, with a good size garden and pretty enough that people would want to stay in it, not asking much am IGrin

Have you tried changing it to map view on zoopla and adding keywords? That might work..

shelldockley · 24/06/2014 12:05

I tried that, but you still have to put an area in the search box, and it doesn't accept UK!

Ooh, just tried it with England on Zoopla and it works!! Off to house hunt...

You could probably get something in parts of Kent for that. Margate springs to mind, although I'm not sure whether people still holiday there. Or Dover or Folkestone, if you wanted to get the ferry custom.

I'm sure there are very pretty parts of the North East where you could get something lovely, but I'm much less familiar with that part of the world. You could search by county though - maybe try Northumberland and work your way down!

mumblechum1 · 24/06/2014 12:47

have you looked at the Zoopla heat map? expensive areas show up red, cheap in blue etc.

shelldockley · 24/06/2014 12:48

I found a few in Margate, but also not sure if people still holiday there...

Had no idea we could afford such a nice place in Dorset, thanks!

Way to go could be Penzance shelldockley:
£ left over for decorating Smile

mothermirth · 24/06/2014 12:51

Sorry, just seen that you wanted somewhere detached. Hmm…

mothermirth · 24/06/2014 12:53

Not detached and over budget but 10 bedrooms! Grin

HenI5 · 24/06/2014 12:53

If you want a property that already has a business established you could look HERE and refine your search from there to suit.

friendface · 24/06/2014 12:57

Not detached but Whitby?

shelldockley · 24/06/2014 12:59

Like the Penzance ones mothermirth, doesn't have to be detached, but I just thought it would suit a B&B better (or better for the neighbours!) Just pinging the first one on an email to family!

Will look up the heatmap mumble, sounds fun!

I'm a bit worried that you'd have to pay more for an already established B&B, but I'll have a look at that site, thanks Hen!

OP posts:
specialsubject · 24/06/2014 12:59

can do - sending you a PM with links!

HenI5 · 24/06/2014 13:39

I guess you would pay more for an established business, although not necessarily if the owners are retiring or have a pressing need to sell, but you have to balance that with all the work you'd have to put in to getting a place up to scratch with regulations (change of use, re-valuation, fire regs etc.) advertising and establishing a business and loss of income during that period?

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 24/06/2014 13:51

You could go a bit wider than the UK.

www.zoopla.co.uk/overseas/details/30443964 Buy a hostel instead ? Proper tourist village this.

www.zoopla.co.uk/overseas/details/33516911 6 beds 4 baths, fishing and touristy stuff nearby

www.zoopla.co.uk/overseas/details/30872631 Overbudget but working B&B

shelldockley · 24/06/2014 14:02

Wow, so much to look at, am getting excited here! Would have to weigh in the cost of putting ensuites to every room, that's the type of B&B I like, so that's what I'd like to offer if possible. We'd only want to let 3 of the rooms though so we'd only need three with the possiblity of ensuite.

I love mumsnet, and I love that none of you have told me I'm mad!

OP posts:
mothermirth · 24/06/2014 14:35

Not mad at all. Enterprising Smile

specialsubject · 24/06/2014 15:30

not mad at all and thanks for the reply to my PM (didn't want to publicise my location :-) )

I think almost all B and Bs now need to be ensuite. Will be a lot of work but why not? You only live once!

shelldockley · 24/06/2014 15:38

I love the one in Co. Kerry, is the property market in Ireland a bit dodgy at the moment though?

That's what I'm thinking specialsubject you only live once, we don't have much money behind us, but as DH is getting made redundant, and we've always wanted to run a B&B, maybe now is the time to seriously think about it Smile

Phone Phil and Kirstie Grin

shelldockley · 24/06/2014 16:15

Kirstie and Phil would definitely think I'm deluded with my budget!
