New Build?

Has anyone had any experience with buying a new build property? I have always found new builds a bit soulless and they seem to be built right on top of each other. This would be my first property, I have always rented until now in areas with good transport links and lots of amenities nearby. I have seen some new build properties, but they are all a little bit further from shops, restaurants etc. I wonder if I would find the transition difficult. Has anyone made a similar move?

PS: My DH and I need to buy / rent a bigger place as we are expecting our first baby.

It all depends on the type of new build. E.G I downsized to what I would call a starter home and although it has three bedrooms I don't know how families with children actually manage to exist in them. The bedrooms are tiny, think small one with room only for a bed and a tiny set of drawers, middle one fitting a single bed, drawers and small wardrobe and master with fitted wardrobes and room for only a double bed (just) and a set of drawers. However, owning your own house means you can add character to it which you cannot do with rented. Also new builds now are usually well insulated and sound proofed.

Love my new build, big spacious rooms, even the hallway. You have to choose your pot well though, view the plot, so you can see the lie of the land, Plans don't show steep inclines.
