Kitchen island distance

Kitchen is long and thin (about 25 ft long) and ive designed it with cupboards down half of one side (towards French doors) and then a 5 foot by 4 foot island in the middle up the other end about 6 foot from the last cupboard. A friend reckons Island too far away so won't be convenient enough to use. Is she right?

Has a kitchen designer looked at the plan?

If I'm understanding you correctly, then yes, I agree with your friend. The placement of the island sounds more suited to a kitchen table.

I'd be happy to look it over for you - PM me for my email address !

I think it sounds a bit too far away and also like it might look a bit funny as well. Is there no way you could have it next to the kitchen units? If not then it sounds like your kitchen just isn't big enough for an island. I'd just have units running along both walls until half way down the room and then a table where you want the island to be. If it fits, that is.
