Was your house in chaos 48 hours before moving?

Thought we were doing well, have gone through every room and packed most things we can live without until we move. Also, everything is boxed in the shed. Have items put aside under stairs we want on the day etc. We do have bits and pieces out which we may use and intend to pack last minute, some of the curtains have been taken down and are in a pile (can't face any more packing tonight).

Jobs to do:

Pack 1% of household items
Final clothes wash on, drain down washing machine and disconnect
Pack approx. 5% of the kitchenware
Put pot plants in boxes
Take down all curtains and air
Take pile of rubbish to the tip
Pack final things like toiletries, bedding

Anyway, a friend has just visited and he thinks we'll never be ready, so I'm just wondering what state other houses are in at this stage.

sounds like you're doing pretty well to me :-)

I think doing the packing yourself, esp if you have kids around, is either madness or a heroic act Grin.
I'm hiring the packing service and I'm STILL very stressed about sorting/leaving essential stuff aside/packing suitcases/clearing rubbish/worrying.
If there are a few people doing your list OP, you may be on top of things.

Thanks for your replies. Other than OH's personal things (he's not around much this week), I've packed up the whole house myself in 7 days - I set myself certain tasks a day and stuck to them even if I was worn out. OH helped me with shed - I got everything out and then knew he'd moan if I made the wrong decision over what we were taking/throwing away. Of the jobs I gave him, he only has to get Xmas decorations down from loft and disconnect washing machine - we got rest down ages ago.

I actually feel in control of it, it just through me when our friend said it looks chaos.

Perhaps next time your friend could lend a hand and keep quiet! Sounds like you're doing brilliantly. Well done. You've stuck to your plan so far so keep at it Smile

Thanks for your replies. Things are now looking tidier. Am about to go upstairs and put anything in a box we can now live without, so all that's out are essentials, bedding and curtains to be packed away on the day - about 30 mins work. Kitchenware is down to very bare essentials, so again will be packed on the day. Curtains downstairs are down and airing outside, so just need to water and box my plants up - I guess about an hour.

Tomorrow OH is off, so he can disconnect washing machine and get xmas decorations down from loft (that's all there is up there), we need to go to the tip and cattery and see if there is any more food stuff to pack up. Think we're getting there!

OMG reminds me I hate moving (logs off rightmove)!! You're doing great, it'll be over soon...

We are moving Friday and it is utter chaos at the moment and I can't see it getting better by 48 hours to go!

It all sounds sorted at yours so good luck.
