Location or house

We are unsure whether to move or not. We live in a lovely village opposite woodland but the house is not to our taste. Needs new kitchen , ideally extension and various other work doing. The issue is that if we spend the money on this work we will almost certainly find that the house does not recoup it in value increase.

We have seen a modern house in a nearby village which is still nice but not as desirable or well located as our village. However, house is just as I would build it but needs kitchen refit etc but overall low maintenance as modern. It is also being sold by a bank as a repossession so it is cheap.

Really not sure what to do- spend and keep nice location or move ?! We could stay in either location long term

Location every time, if your current location is good i think you will find house holds its value far better than another house in a less desirable location.

Location every time.

If you intend to live in the home long term then invest in the one you have already.

Location every time. The location is (broadly) fixed. Areas may move up and down a little bit, but on the whole.......

We have a house that we really don't like, but it's in a location we love. We are spending a small fortune on alterations (more threads to follow) but to us, it's worth it - even though we know it doesn't make great sense in purely financial terms certainly not in the short term anyway

We look at our house as a utility. It's there principally for our benefit, not as an investment. If this is your "forever house" then stick with it. If you feel you need to move up the ladder, don't invest further in your current property - look for somewhere that you might add value.

Location for me too. Having just searched for our next home I was open to viewing properties in other areas, but in the end we realised that it didn't matter how nice the house was or how much more we could get for our money elsewhere, if we weren't coming home to this wee village it just wouldn't feel like coming home.

I would stay in your home and modernise it to your taste.

I would choose location, but go back as much as you can in the next couple of days, drive through or walk around the other village, if there's a shop or pub go into them. It may help you get a better feel.

The other village is still very nice, it's just got slightly less character than our has. We did used to live there as we rented on the development we are looking at buying on but it was only for 6 months .

Our house drives me mad and is very difficult to alter to get it exactly how I want it. It is large but a funny layout as it is a small house that has been enlarged over the years The other place is big and modern and built for open plan living.

Such a hard decision to make.

Location.

I've made the mistake before of chosing the house.
