I know (another kitchen thread) but which (budget) worktop with white kitchen?

There is no way around it, the budget for the new kitchen (which is a for-now compromise) does not stretch to anything other than nice laminate.

Its a new kitchen diner - quite large (about 14' x 22') with 3 large windows (so light). Have just fitted solid bamboo flooring throughout, original 1930s doors, oak dining table (so mix n match really with wood). Have decided on fairly plain but modern matt white kitchen, but can't decide which colour / finish of work top to go for. Will have worktop along an L shape (about 3m x 1.5 metres) and on little island (1.5cm x 90cm).

Don't want real wood but thought a premium laminate (Durapol) in a kind of style to mimic floor. But having been to a kitchen showroom tonight, am thinking we should go for something light (although the light worktops that I did like were quartz). Does light laminate look cheap?

Any suggestions gratefully received!

I'd hold your breath and do bamboo worktop same as the floor (as I have - see profile pic)

We have "top-quality" (ie most expensive but also nicest looking) laminate in a light oak wood effect, it even has a slight grain, and we are really pleased with it.

I wasn't convinced by any of the laminate until I saw this one.

I have friends with plain white with a kind of wood edge/border which I think looks nice - but then I hate granite/marble (real or otherwise) with a passion, and am also way too lasy for real wood (looks at kitchen with pools of water sitting by the sink).

Yes, we did have solid beech worktops in our last house and even though we looked after them yeah right they still had black marks around the sink within a couple of years. And that was pre sticky fingered, clumsy children!
