Has anyone used B&Q or Homebase kitchens?

Just that. I want a new kitchen but can't afford or wish to spend the money on designer kitchen. Has anyone had a "cheap" kitchen and felt pleased with it?

I wouldn't use Homebase at the moment as they seem to be in a lot of trouble. All our local stores are shutting down.

I have a Homebase kitchen in my current house. We had it installed four years ago and haven't had any issue with it. I still love it. We did hire our own joiners to fit it rather than have the store joiners as Homebase wanted more to fit it than the cost of the actual kitchen!

We had a Wickes kitchen fitted about 5 yrs ago, and have been v. pleased with it. Wickes sent someone out to help us design the layout etc. which was useful. Didn't have Wickes fitters, though, so can't comment on them! I can't now remember why we didn't use them - could have been cost, but I may be doing them a disservice!

We have an Ikea kitchen and its been fab. We will be putting another one in when we move too.

We had a B & Q kitchen about 7 years ago and it's still going strong. Been very happy with it

Really great to hear all of these stories of good cheap kitchens! In my previous property I spent loads on a new kitchen but I don't feel I need to do that again, nor can I really afford to. I'll research the shops mentioned here, thanks!

homebase in trouble??? do you have insider knowledge??
was hoping to extend current units we have when new extension built, but this won't be until at least nov/Dec

My friend has a new B&Q kitchen and it looks great - she's really pleased with it.

WeAllHaveWings · 17/06/2014 19:01

We have B&q clevedon. Looked great to start with and ok now, biggest issue is b&q laminate work top need replaced already and inset doors don't sit right due to soft close hinges (which also don't soft close anymore)

CointreauVersial · 17/06/2014 23:28

We have a B&Q kitchen, although I wouldn't describe it as "cheap", unless your benchmark is handmade and bespoke. It was from their Cooke & Lewis range, which is mid-priced.

We had our own fitter to put it in; four years on it is still as good as new.

Sacbina, I think they may be looking at their strategy/streamlining a bit. They have closed a couple of my local branches too, but then they've also face lifted and expanded their flagship local store and tidied up the other one they have left here.

sacbina · 18/06/2014 07:44

phew that sounds ok.

from my experience of buying 7 years ago their customer service was awful, delivery took 3 months and then some pieces were missing. on the plus side the kitchen has lasted really well through 2 dcs, to the extent that we're happy to buy extra pieces for extended kitchen, until dcs are old enough and we can replace the whole thing with what we want. will probably find the quality is not as good this time round, and it'll fall to bits!

OriginofSymmetry · 18/06/2014 07:47

Well we've just ordered a hygena kitchen fr Homebase so hope they're not 'in trouble'! We're not using them to fit either though.

Clargo55 · 18/06/2014 10:27

I was also going to recommended Wickes. Homebase were more expensive than Wickes and B&Q, they would not budge on the price either.

Love our Wickes kitchen, lovely quality and great customer service all round ( we used their fitting service)
