How can I revamp a kitchen on a budget??

Sorry for daft questions but I'm really clueless! The place we're buying has a fairly new kitchen in, but the colour scheme is not to our taste. If I go down the route of measuring the cabinet doors and getting them off b&q (for instance), what do I do about the frame around the cabinet and how do I get that to match??

Buying and attaching you own new cabinet doors and drawer fronts is usually the way to go here. B&Q sell standard sized doors and drawer fronts quite cheaply. Or you could try a site like Lark ad Larks who do made to measure as well as standard sizes and they aren't expensive. We're looking into this at the moment and it should cost me £270 to get some nice cream doors. We want to sell our house next year. Both the kitchen and the bathroom are old fashioned and while I imagine that a prospective buyer might not be too put off by having to revamp the bathroom or the kitchen - I can imagine that most people wouldn't want to do both.

Painting the walls white always helps as does and really really good clean and putting fresh herbs on the windowsill. You could invest in some nice matching accessories from Sainsbury' or similar.

You could follow all of these tips and spend less than £500.

Depending on what the doors and carcass frames are made of paint them!

I did mine two years ago, 2 coats of Zinsser BIN, 2 coats of Little Greene oil based eggshell and new handles and knobs and it looked like new.

It was a bit time consuming and messy but it still looks good and has stood up well to wear and tear. Cost about £250 for materials for a large-ish kitchen with lots of doors/drawers.
