Cost of packers/removals

I've had a few different quotes re packing and moving in London. There seems to be a huge variation in costs for packing/materials in particular.

We're moving from a 2 bedroom (I estimate 3 bedrooms amount of stuff) about half a mile away - we had budgeted 2 grand for packers and removals - does that sound about right?

That is a hell of a lot!

Ours was a 5 bed detached house move in wales to a 3 bed in Cambridge £1100 move and £300 packing dismantling service

We went from a 3-bed (plus garage full) to 5-bed and it was about £1400. £400 of that was for packing. Whereabouts in London are you?

We went from a 2 bed to a 4 bed, 25 miles away, for £800 (packing/removals/assembling). Outside of London though!

We went from a 2 bed terrace to a 3 bed semi 3 streets away. We paid just under £900 for removals with full packing service in Berkshire.

4 men and 2 lorries - was excellent value for money and completely stress free.

We're north London (but not a posh bit).

Do all your figures include VAT and packing materials? Our top quote is under 2K, but it seems to be the packing materials that are vastly different in price, from 90 pounds to over 300.

Though not sure if comparing like for like in terms of robustness, 'hiring' boxes etc.

We moved last week from a 4 bed Semi to a 3 bed semi. All in inc packing & all materials was £950 - we are in the West Mids & the market is very buoyant where we are.

Pickfords have sweetly quoted us £5,300 to pack and move, with £115+VAT extra per week for storage.

We are also in North London (not a posh bit), 4 bed terrace. It seems extortionate.

Good grief, vinoandbrie. My £2 estimation was based on local friends who used Pickfords for a pack and move last year and I thought that was the top of the price range!

We paid about £800 for 3 bed (plus shed) to 4 bed half a mile away. The packing service (which was fantastic!) was about £200 of that).

We're in Wales though, so not a good comparison for London. good luck!

We paid a grand to move a four bed plus a shed full and some chickens (and a piano and a cast iron bath) to a five bed ten miles away. Hackney to Woodford.

No packing though, that would have been about £500 more.

We had four quotes for packing and removals (south east).

£1.2k

And £780.

Guess we one we went for?

Huge and completely arbitrary variation, I think they just made it up as they went along tbh.
