We really don't as we've been instructed to only go through the EA.
We have been living in temporary acommodation since 1st April, waiting and waiting for the required information to come from the vendor.
Anyway, last Saturday our EA told us that the vendor had had an offer accepted on the house they loved and wanted to exchange with us this week and move next week. Our solicitor has received nothing.
We can't fathom it and it's driving me crazy.
If we hadn't absolutely set our hearts on this, very individual, house, we'd walk away.
I have posted about this before, and appreciate d the support given, but more would be very helpful.

1st April? That's a long to time to be waiting for something to happen!

Do you think this sudden recent development was mentioned just to keep you hanging on in there? To avoid you dropping out?

You could offer an ultimatum with a time deadline but it's risky eg. " if we don't receive X information/exchange by (whatever date) then we will walk away"

IWillYeah · 12/06/2014 18:38

If you haven't exchanged, let alone completed, and they are dicking you about, you need to instruct your solicitor to get tough and say that you want clear timescales now and a realistic idea of the vendor's position or you may have to withdraw your offer.

Never get so hung up on a house that you put yourself at the mercy of someone caught in a chain and unwilling to be honest about their position. They could keep you hanging on a string for months if they know you're desperate.

titchypumpkin · 12/06/2014 18:47

that doesn't make sense, if they've only offered last saturday how can they possibly hope to complete on their purchase next week?!? Or are they planning on going into temporary accomodation?

i agree 1st april is a looooong time to be waiting without a good explanation, i'd also set a deadline on it

tell the agent to stop treating you like fools. There is no way they can exchange in a week of offer acceptance.

Ask WTF is going on, is the vendor really going to move and what is really happening.

PigletJohn · 12/06/2014 19:21

I hope you are still looking.

The vendor may be living in a dream world.

Sunnyshores · 13/06/2014 15:17

Completely unacceptable. You need to speak to the EA, or better still get your solicitor to be very firm with them. YOu should have a date or a list of things that need to happen and an estimated date.

Personally, I'd knock on their door and ask what the story is.
