Are patio heaters passe?

And if so, what do you use to provide heat around a garden table?

I'm looking to get something for my garden to enable us to sit outdoors later in the evening. We had a patio heater but its long gone to the tip. I don't want a large structure overpowering the garden so I was thinking of a table top version but they seem to have disappeared from DIY stores. Have they gone out of fashion? It must be able to be switched on/off without fuss, which rules out chimneas and firepits. Can anyone recommend anything?

I think so - possibly because they aren't very environmentally friendly? We've got one but haven't used it for years for this reason.

Ah. Presumably the same concerns wouldn't apply to electric patio heaters? We have a plug nearby

The only thing I would think acceptable is something like a Chimenea Personally I don't like the look of this one, but I thought you might find the link interesting.

Hoolies - thanks for the link. Chiminea too much of a faff for us, but some of the other options look promising
