Hi,

We are looking at selling our house and buying a house that is a repossession. Because it is a repo, we could be gazumped right up to exchange. As such I am considering using a no sale no fee solicitor but need them to be reliable and efficient too as a fast transaction will be key to getting this house. Has anyone used no sale no fee conveyancers and can you recommend any- pm me if you prefer.

We are in the process of moving (under offer but not found anywhere to buy yet) so have been getting quotes from solicitors. The ones we used last time we moved (who were very good and managed to deal with our psychotic vendors) have quoted as no sale, no fee (although we would have to pay searches etc, just not for their time) so you may find lots of normal conveyancing solicitors offer this now.

If prompt is what you need, I'd try and pick someone you can get to physically so you can get info to them / harangue them in person to hurry up if needed - can you ask for local recommendations from friends / colleagues and see if they offer no sale no fee?

My solicitor said he'd match the "no sale no fee" agreement I'd had with someone else.... Then "forgot" that conversation and charged me over £1,000.

Get it in writing.

We are using Shoosmiths as recommended by our estate agents and they've been great, we are in the midst of a nightmare and they've been really helpful.

We used Ramsdens based in Huddersfield. We 're in the south east so it was all online and on the phone. We found them through some online network that our estate agents used. I forget how much exactly but it was a fixed quote and no sale no fee. They were OK for most of the process - we had to keep on them to do stuff but I think that's fairly normal. We really got our money's worth in the last week when they were negotiating a tricky chain to exchange and compete before Christmas and they got it done against the odds, so on that basis I'd recommend them.
