Converting a sliding door so it goes into the wall

Is this incredibly expensive? We've got a small, really, really awkward kitchen that we're going to do up (think 1960s old & tired).

There's currently a sliding door which runs along a wall track. I would like to convert it to a door that slides into the wall. In theory there should be enough room to do so. There probably aren't pipes along that wall as the stairs are on the other side. All pipes go up the other side of the room.

Converting the door would free up some much needed space as the kitchen narrows in that end.

We definitely want to keep the door so we can block off the noise and smells from the kitchen.

I have only ever seen them in new walls-built for the purpose-I assume it is just a stud wall but if the stairs are on then possibly not and you would have to add a stud wall.

Hmm walls are currently plaster. Also if anybody has ideas of who can do this type of work in SE London it would be much appreciated.
