Washing machine position in a kitchen

In the design plan for our kitchen, the washing machine will be placed next to the cooker! Does anyone know if this meets safety/building regs?

I know nothing of building regs, but my mum's washing machine had been next to her cooler for the last 30 years with no problems.

some friends did a tiny kitchen a few years ago with that configuration - seemed fine.

Thanks guys. I need reassuring that it will be fine. I have this crazy vision of the vibrations of the spin cycle knocking pots off the hob - a bit ridiculous I know but I don't know anyone else who has this set up in their kitchen.
