Wood doors feel sticky/osmo polyx/cleaning

I have oak doors and the previous owner of my house hasn't been good at cleaning them!
There are grubby marks at hand level on some doors and where I have cleaned this off the wood is a lighter shade underneath.

Other doors feel sticky (again at hand level) and I have tried cleaning with wood cleaner but it hasn't helped.
The kitchen has real wood worktops and these were the same. DH sanded them down and I applied osmo hard wax oil and they came up a treat.

can I ask if I wanted to paint the doors with osmo oil do they need to be sanded first? (osmo says no need to sand but not sure if this is true for first application).

has anyone sanded wooden doors? There are a lot of grooves on the design so I'm not sure it would be very easy.

how do you clean your wooden doors?

Confused

are they solid, or are they veneered? (look at the edges and tops)

veneer can be varnished, but not oiled or waxed.

then you can sand clean, then oil and wax if you want to. Don't leave bare as dirt and handmarks will get in.

White sprit will help clean off wax and dirt, but not old oil that has oxidised and hardened.

You can clean it with Liberon wax and polish remover before treating with osmo wax.

Do they really need to be sanded before applying the osmo if I give them a really good clean first?

not if you are satisfied that they are fully clean and not patchy. you have to avoid sealing over any dirt.

Great. Will try on an inside cupboard door first to test finish. Thanks.
