Moving to Purley, near Croydon - Any advice?

We are about to get the keys to our new house in Purley. Very excited as we have been looking to buy for over a year, initially in zone 3 but then we decided Purley as we could get a whole house and the transport is good.

We are a couple in our mid thirties, no kids (yet) and both work in central London.

I was looking for any advice at all on Purley from anyone here that has moved to the area.

In particular:

  • Are there any good pubs or cafes in Purley?
  • What do you like best about Purley?
  • To get to Canary Wharf do I need a Zone 1-6 travelcard or can I use a Zone 2-6?
  • Where is nice to go for walks / running nearby?

Our house is on the East side of Purley, off the Godstone Road.

Thanks!

I think the best thing about Purley is the A22. Gets you out of London pretty sharpish. There are some good walks on Riddlesdown, also up on Kenley Aerodrome.

You can get to Canary Wharf via Sydenham and Canada Water with a 2-6 but to go via London Bridge you need 1-6.
