Hi

We live in the West Midlands (currently renting in Solihull, want to move to Sutton/Wylde Green/Lichfield area). We have £5,000 saved. Does anyone know if there are any help to buy schemes available? I can only see them in Walsall etc.

I am likely to be offered and take a job in Lichfield starting in September. Before this we were content to carry on saving an move next year but I don't want a massive commute and it would be easier if we could buy now rather than rent in Lichfield and move again when we buy. Alternatively, is there anywhere in Lichfield to rent for about £600 a month? We also have a cat who'd need to come!

Would £5,000 even be enough of a deposit in 5% scheme bearing in mind moving costs, white goods etc? Are we mad? First time buyers so no clue. Would it be better to save for a while? We're both lawyers, I qualify in September so will be able to save much more money per month from then.

There is a government help to buy scheme that helps you buy a house with 5% deposit.

However our budget for costs is £5k alone.
