When viewing display kitchen cupboards, check if the positions of the shelves can be adjusted without removing the cupboard doors (thanks Magnet).

Ha! My best one (have worked in housing for years) was doing a site visit with our (all male) QS team who were proudly showing me around a very expensively refurbed property with a triangular kitchen. Where do you think they put the oven? Right in the triangular corner so you couldn't open the door. You couldn't make it up. That was expensive to fix...

My best lesson learned is not to go for a glass shower screen - broke one expensively in rented accommodation, and found it very difficult to live with in a place we'd bought. Trying to bath a DC would be a nightmare. Shower curtains all the way plus I love being able to update them regularly with different maps etc
