Where to move?

At the moment we live north London/South Herts and are not only getting up at stupid o'clock to get to work/schools etc but we are paying the equivalent of another mortgage+.

We have decided to sell and move to a more practical location but the problem is we need to get to 3 different places and need advice on which location to look in. We have been going goggle eyed trying to work out which place to look. Different areas work well with 2 destinations but not the 3rd so any advice would be helpful.

Dh needs to get to eith London Bridge / Monument / Tower Hill station. He would like a journey time of less then 20 minutes

Dd needs to get to either Marble Arch / Baker Street / Marylebone / Edgeware Rd station. Journey time again of less than 20 minutes.

I need to get to West Croydon / Selhurst area. I can drive or take public transport and again would like a journey time of less than 20 minutes.

Is it possible Is there such a place or is someone going to have to compromise.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Impossible OP. Probably. What's your budget?

fuckinglondonballs · 28/05/2014 10:53

I don't have time right now but I'll have a go later at a Venn diagram. Or you could have a bash now. Plot all stations within 20 minutes of Marylebone then of London Bridge then stations and drives within 20 mins of Croydon. Then see where they overlap.

(And I say impossible because everyone I know who does modest commutes in London - like zone 3 to 1 - all spend about an hour getting to work)

orangepudding · 28/05/2014 10:55

What's your budget and what size house are you looking for ?

orangepudding · 28/05/2014 11:02

How about moving to Croydon?

Runningforfun · 28/05/2014 11:03

The budget is not the issue it is the area I want

Beckenham.

You'd get 20 mins to London bridge. Slightly longer to west Croydon and edgeware road though as need train and tube.

Other option is somewhere like clapham - but again it is the edgeware road bit which is an issue and London bridge would take a bit longer with a change at Waterloo.

Croydon is a good option - direct trains to London bridge but need to change train/tubes for edgeware. Can't avoid it though.

Elephant and Castle. Longest journey would be for you.

beaglesaresweet · 28/05/2014 11:55

Absolutely you can't have 20min journey to London Bridge AND to Marylebone unless you live by Westminster station or surrounds. Then of course it'd be more than 20 min to Croydon depending on traffic by car, but still ok from nearby Victoria.

West Norwood is an affordable option: London Bridge about 20min (or less), good for Croydon to drive from or maybe bus (possibly rail too but may not be direct), and for Edgware Rd it's 20min to Victoria and then the tube or bus (but overall a good 40min).

The best I could come up with is London Bridge Station. Dh could walk to work, dd would be under 20 mins to Marble Arch and mine could be around 25 mins.

The only thing is there is only 1 choice of property and although very nice not sure if they would work as a family home. Just hoping there was another choice.

yes, I was about to say that LB is an option itself, but no it's not really a family house type area. Very touristy too.

beaglesaresweet · 28/05/2014 13:26

surely also depends on budget. If you could afford Pimlico nearest to victoria/westm, that could work.
