We'd like a 4 seater that extends to 8 (10 at a push).

Try gumtree or eBay? We got an amazing 1920s oak refectory table from gumtree with 4 chairs and 2 carvers for £250 including delivery a couple of months ago. Would have cost £1000s new!

Myakka have lovely dining tables and really good customer service too.

we got our dining table from here. they have really nice stuff!

I currently have the 2m Bjursta in dark wood from Ikea which was a steal at £180 and looks just right in our existing house - comfortably seats 8 or 10 at a pinch, and with two leaves goes down to a nice four seater. But not for everyone - what sort of style are you looking for?
