IKEA kitchen - to paint?

We are currently having an extension - making a small kitchen into a large kitchen diner. We have a kitchen from b and q only 3 years old, so....the plan was to keep this but add the bits we need, including new wooden work tops. We have a carpenter to do this! Also he is going to make an island. The main question is, has anyone bought a solid or unfinished ikea kitchen so you can paint it? I plan to paint it a blue colour on the bottom and cream on the top. Stealing an idea from fired earth. But on a very small budget! Can't see online whether it is veneered or lacquered. Anyone painted one? Thank you!

I haven't painted one but I believe you could paint the Bodbyn ikea kitchen as it has a painted finish, or there's a flat one as well but can't remember the name - veddinge or something like that?

My Mum painted her freestanding ikea kitchen. Looks ace.
