Tiles vs splashbacks

Im just wondering which is better - in terms of cost and ease of installation, hygiene, looks? Considering for kitchen and bathroom to have glass splashbacks behind the bath as well. How do you get the colour you want - can you paint the wall behind the splashbacks and get a clear glass one? The range of colours ive seen is limited.

No experience with splashbacks. Listening with interest...

I've had both.
Now have glass splash back in kitchen. We chose the colour we wanted then glazier painted back of glass. For me, it's a hygiene issue. I could never get the grout behind the taps clean. Nor did I want to spend ages doing so. This is very easy to clean and can be polished. I can't think of any downsides to it tbh.

I have glass splash backs behind the stove and sink in the kitchen. They are fab. No gaps and so so easy to clean.

Mine is silver and i wouldn't want see through ones. Wouldn't you see the glue? Or about if things fell in and you can see it but not clean it?

I have just gone for glass splashbacks in new kitchen. Absolutely love them - so easy to keep clean and reflect light into the kitchen. Very pleased to be rid of the tiles!
There were loads of colours to choose from. If you do decide on glass, try to get some samples to take home as we chose a very different colour than the one we had initially thought would match our colour scheme when we were in the showroom.

Thanks everyone I think the splashbacks might be the way forward.
