Commuting to Manchester from Saddlewortgh - doable?

Hi everyone,

We're thinking of moving to Saddleworth area (Delph, Marsden maybe - keeping an open mind!) However, we need to drive into central Manchester sometimes & wondering whether it's doable on the A62 or if traffic is a nightmare? We previously looked at Glossop but realised straightway traffic was a no-no :o)

Anybody travel into Manchester from that sort of area?

Thank you. x

Extremely do-able. I would use the train though. From Delph you can drive to Greenfield Station - minutes - or if you were say in Uppermill you could walk to Greenfield Station.
Alternatively you could drive from there into Oldham and pick up the light rail Metrolink service
I am in one of the villages and use the express commuter bus service which is fine but traffic can be a pain as you drop into Oldham
Sometimes weather can be a factor but trains usually always run even in heavy snow fall.

I am soooo interested in where you have bought! I bet you've bought that awesome house with 2 acres of woodland! We have been house hunting for nearly a year and missed out on a couple. DH works in Manchester and plans on commuting in.

Ooops- I read that wrong as you have already found somewhere in Delph!

Hi again,

Thanks very much for your posts. Yes, I'd heard the train is especially good from Greenfield as it's subsidised? I'm hoping I can train it sometimes but family logistics mean I'll have to drive sometimes as well so want to keep my options open. TPN - sorry to hear you've been having a frustrating time of it, this housebuying business is such a stress!

Thanks again! x
