I live in a house with a large shared driveway which is in need of some work. One section of the drive where people drive in is tarmac but is full of potholes. I've had quite a few quotes & differing opinions. Most firms have suggested we have the potholes filled and then tar & shingle on top. This appealed as it's cheaper than tarmac and I think would blend in better with the rest of the drive which is gravel. However another firm who are meant to be good said tar & shingle wouldn't last any time at all & said we should tear up the tarmac, put down hardcore and then gravel on top- but this comes at 3 times the cost of tar & shingle. All the other neighbours are elderly so it's been left up to me to sort out quotes & I want to be sure that I spend everyone's money wisely.
Has anyone else got a tar & shingle drive? Have you been pleased with it & how has it weared?
