Houses not on Rightmove/zoopla etc

  1. Do they exist?
  2. Where are they, how can I find them?!

I'm starting to feel a little desperate that we won't find a house to buy within our timescale

Yes, and depending on your budget, a good buying agent would be able to access them for you....alternatively, you just need to badger the agents on a daily basis, asking them what is coming on to the market, or leaflet the roads/areas you are looking in.

Ours wasn't on Rightmove for about nine days - the agent forgot to place it on there! Keep in touch with all local agents on a regular basis - that way they'll know you're serious and you will come to mind if anything new comes along which fits your criteria.

Estate agents are emailing and texting when anything comes up but there isn't anything much being added. We are relocating so aren't in a position to view at the drop of a hat.
I'm about to lose my mind.

house across the road from me was advertised in local Property paper, featuring on front page and double page inside, but not on internet and not even on agents Hamptons website!
I don't get it - there weren't enough photos in paper (I was looking forward to seeing photos online - it's a huge beautiful house valued at 1.2mln), and the paper is issued weekly so people could miss it. Unless it's sold so quickly after publishing that agents didn't bother putting it on website? smoke and mirrors. It's been a month since, btw.

My EA told me that very once in a while they get a vendor who refuses to allow their house to go on RightMove because they don't want all their neighbours seeing inside.

beaglesaresweet · 23/05/2014 17:37

yes, I get that, Mrs - if hte house is a mess or they just don't want anyone looking, but in the case I describe there were about 5 photos in the paper, main rooms, they al llooked nice but empty so can't see why not go on internet. Unless they want to discourage large flow of viewings.

We had estate agent round yesterday doing a valuation and he told us our neighbour was selling their house but didn't want it going on the internet etc. Don't know why!
Anyway, I feel your pain, we're also trying to relocate and finding it very slow going. Before we started, my H was always saying about someone at work who'd been trying to relocate for nearly 3 years and we assumed they must be incredibly fussy/not really wanting to relocate. Hmm, not so sure now!

dottyaboutstripes · 23/05/2014 18:26

There surely aren't EAs who don't place listings on Rightmove? I guess that's what I must've been asking. Hopefully one of the houses we view tomorrow will be "the one" otherwise we will have to wait another week before viewing anything and keep our fingers crossed that something new will appear because I've trawled through all the listings and we are just not interested in much that we can see. ARGH!

I actually felt horrendous about having my house listed on Rightmove but knew it had to be done if I wanted to sell (though it then sold before the listing appeared!)

Dotty - I feel your pain!! Also feel like I'm going insane. We've been trying to relocate for 3 years now. I jest not. We had big trouble selling our house, but we managed that last summer. Then we found dream house, but got gazumped. We then decided to move into a rental property (last Oct) with the aim of moving in 6 months, but we are still here. Had to pull out of another purchase last month due to poor survey results. It feels like my life is on hold. I have become mildly obsessed with looking for a dream house but there are hardly any coming onto the market. I have widened the search area too - to the whole county, but still hardly anything. 300 mile round trip every time we want to view. I'm exhausted to be honest. Estate agents hardly ever get in touch, even when I have badgered them. Think that properties get onto Rightmove very quickly now so probably not so much of that going on now.
