Can I lightly sand my engineered boards to stain them darker?

Still in good condition - but colour is pale and dated...is this a DIY job -- or professional ?

I wouldn't much fancy this, to be honest. You'd have to take a decent bit off the top to be absolutely free of whatever finish is on there, otherwise the stain will be patchy. And not all engineered boards are equal... Do you know how thick the top layer is? You might be safer with a surface finish than a stain.

Pale is not dated!! Dark is dated. Bleached or limed is lovely.

Just want to update the colour - surface finish sounds ideal -- what is this?
