I have just bought a jigsaw but it has a round plug with three round pins. Is there an easy way to power this from the mains? (crosses fingers)

We have drills like that. They are plugged into a transformer. Not sure there's anyway of using it without. The transformer is plugged into mains as normal.

you may find that it is set up for 110V. If it is and you plug it into the UK mains without the transformer, you get to use it - for one second.

how old is this thing?

I thought it was a legal requirement that anything sold in the uk has a uk plug?

I've complained and got a refund after I bought something on Amazon marketplace which had a non uk plug and it wasn't advertised as having a foreign one.

Did you buy it from a UK shop, or obtain it in some other way?

What colour is the plug? (This is not a joke.)

It's not illegal surely. Trade use them all the time - just with a transformer.

TalkinPeace · 17/05/2014 12:41

yup, its 110 v trade equipment - you got sold a pup

mabelbabel · 17/05/2014 16:45

It was from Amazon. So sounds like I should send it back? Plug is orange (i think) can't lay my hands on it just now.

if the plug was Yellow, then it is probably a 110 volt machine which is used on building sites (they are commonly sold in pub car parks after being stolen out of builders' vans)

So unless it was specifically advertised as a 110v tool, for a builder's use, you should return it.
