any one know of a good manufacturer that does lovely stuff like hansgrohe, but without the colossal price tag?

Probably not so helpful , but there is a national online lot who advertise everywhere called Victoria something or other. They do.

eddielizzard · 15/05/2014 08:42

Ah ok - thanks! When I saw the first part of your message it stopped at 'lot'. I thought you were going to tell me to buy a lottery ticket!

It's Victoria plumb, they don't have any actual stores though so you have to just order 'blind' online.

eddielizzard · 15/05/2014 08:55

i've just had a look - they look very good.

have either of you bought the stuff? is it as good in rl as it looks in the photos?

What kind of stuff are you asking about?

californiaburrito · 15/05/2014 09:14

If you are looking for taps try Crosswater. My builder, who is a bit of a snob about these things, rates them. Not super cheap but cheaper.

eddielizzard · 15/05/2014 09:29

i'm after taps and shower mixers specifically.

crosswater do look good...

Apparently, the internal fittings are high quality which makes them very good value for money. We've gone with the mike lever range but I haven't tried them out yet as the bathroom is currently being fitted.

PigletJohn · 15/05/2014 15:40

Have a look at Plumworld who often have good deals.

Grohe style is distinctive, I prefer Bristan which is top quality but may not be to your taste.

If you want a shower, Aquilisa are very good.

Hudson Reed do nice stuff - not sure how prices compare

Always shop around for any of this stuff - loads of online plumbing merchants competing on price.

eddielizzard · 15/05/2014 17:04

well it's my mil who is on a small budget but has fallen in love with stuff from a local bathroom shop. trying to help her find similar stuff but at reasonable prices!

very stylish and small budget may not equal good quality.

Does she have a combi boiler?

PigletJohn · 15/05/2014 17:34

have a look here

their architeckt brand is very budget.

eddielizzard · 15/05/2014 18:51

thanks john - it's a combi boiler, so i guess that rules out electric or power showers. i'm checking out plumbworld now...

Hansgrohe is pretty hard to beat for their price point. You should easily get 20 years out of it.

PigletJohn · 15/05/2014 23:54

with a combi boiler, it is useful to have your main shower off the combi, and if you have a second shower, an electric one, so you can use it when the boiler goes wrong. The electric one will not deliver so much hot water because it will only have about a third the power.

MrsTaraPlumbing · 16/05/2014 16:53

I have to say I agree with Piglet that Bristan is one of my favourite companies - what not to like made in UK and named after Brian & Stan. And Aqualisa would be my number one for showers in general.
I also think hansgrohe is really good value for money - just ordered one of their shower heads for my own shower.
I love taps & showers that are so good they come with 5 year manufacturers warranty.
I would avoid the really cheap stuff and warn you that they often work out more expensive in the long run.

You will get a better price at plumbers' merchants. I bought Hansgrohe Raindance showers and Bristan taps for our house along with Roca and Ideal Standard sanitary ware from plumbase. They are extremely good value when compared to Matki! Ask for a cash account and if you are buying multiple items, ask for a further discount!
