Hello, I've currently got a loft conversion done before I bought the house which is basically a first fix plus 2 small dormers (one to the back, one to the side where the staircase is). As the back dormer isn't very big and also doesn't go out very far, it doesn't create much additional floor space so I am interested in enlarging it so that it spans the width of the house and goes out all the way to the roofline (I.e. the type of dormer extension that is more common these days). Others on the street have done their extensions the way I'd like mine at the back of their houses but nobody else has a side dormer as well as I'm the end of the terrace. I'd also like to put in a bathroom - I had all the pipes run up to that floor when I had the 1st floor bathroom redone recently.
Has anyone done anything similar who could let me know your experiences of cost, planning permission, whether it's worth it? It would give us a brilliant, big master suite on the top floor instead of a rather compromised space that's proving difficult to furnish, plus a good second bathroom for what is a 4 bed house with 2 receptions and a big kitchen. (We can get a bathroom in at present but only the tiniest wet room and even that would be a squeeze as the washbasin may have to be in the bedroom). I'm in SE London near Beckenham (if that makes a difference). We'd be doing this with the intention of making the house that much more liveable for us in the longer term (instead of moving) rather than with a view to selling in the short term. Many thanks in advance.
