Dm has just moved into a bungalow and wants to extend the whole of the side as its tiny. There is space 4/5 meters or so, BUT we have never done something like this before. What do we need to do exactly? No idea where to start. The layout inside will also need to be changed. Thanks pancakes.

Your best bet is to speak to an architect. You can check your local council's planning portal where there's step by step guide for various scenarios.

Re changing layout etc, the architect will be able to help with the design for what you want... The builder will be able to bash walls down etc, but you will still need the architect to submit plans etc.

Good luck!

Also a good place to search for architects is the ARB website, or RIBA website. Where are you?
