Patio doors

We have just inherited a set of patio doors. They are 7ft high by 6 ft wide. The only wall that they could go on is 9ft (with a few inches spare). We will have to remove a window and move a radiator and very likely replace the lintel as DH doesn't think it is long enough. We will need a building warrant (scotland) and can do the work ourselves.

Worth it? too big for that size of wall? I know nothing about patio doors tbh any help mich appreciated.

Well, it really depends what they're opening onto, and from what room. We put patio doors between our dining room and, well... the patio, to make the most of the outlook and the incredible light at that end of the house. We have a couple of easy chairs beside them, and we often sit there on rainy summer evenings (doors open), or winter afternoons (doors shut, fire lit!)

They work for us because they frame a nice view of the garden, and because it's a good route out to the garden. If we needed to put furniture against that wall, or it looked out onto a dank corner, or if it landed us in the middle of a pond, it might not have been worth the hassle to put it right.

They would be opening onto an area of slabs (where our bench sits, but it'd not against the wall anyway) and opening from the dining room side of our house long living room. The un sets on that side of the house as well if that makes any odds.

The sun the window that is there just now is wide but short so doesn't let much light in. view would be of the garden
