Where can I get a coffee table like this

but with the top being just one piece, not several planks?

I like the fact that the table is square, solid oak and a bit rugged looking without being ethnic. £320 sounds about right too, you think?

If you want the top to be just one piece that's quite a bit more workmanship and is likely to be more expensive.

Do you know of any up cycling places/ furniture workshop type places or even a carpenter?

This isn't helping at all is it?! I made ours myself with a bit of help from a friend
The top cost a lot more than the legs as I probably picked the most expensive bit of wood.

I have seen a nice low table like that in Heal's, but it was last year.

B &Q? Buy some railway sleepers. Get them to saw them into 5 pieces (2 legs, 3 tops). Fasten together underneath with some battens. Stain and polish.
Voila! Grin

When you say 'one piece' do you mean:
a) the planks closed up with no gaps in between;
or
b) a single piece of wood?

If b) it would have to come from a really wide tree if you want true solid wood, or it would have to be made of a composite such as wood-veneered plywood. This is basically a sandwich, usually about 1" or so thick, where the outsides (top and bottom) are effectively a single, seamless sheet, with plywood as the 'filling'. The top is real wood and you will have no gaps. You would probably need to ask someone to make you one to order.
