How often do you chase/check in with your conveyancer or solicitor?

Just wondered how often people are checking in (ok chasing!) their solicitors? Starting to feel like I am hounding ours but desperately need her to keep the pressure up on the rest of the chain because of our mortgage expiry date in June.

Our solicitors sent an email on the 21 April to say that they had sent the contract pack. I contacted solicitors last wednesday to say it hadn't arrived. She said that she would arrange for a duplicate to be sent to us... but postman has been today and still no contract pack.

I left her a message yesterday asking if she could confirm if the contract had actually been sent out. At the same time, I asked her if the exchange and completion dates could now be discussed with the rest of the chain as she had already indicated that she hoped to tie everything up in May.

Getting seriously stressed out as have this awful feeling something is going to go wrong at the last minute (we have a fairly long chain) and if our mortgage offer expires I dont think we would get through the new mortgage rules as our bank account statements are not great.

I'm therefore putting pressure on our solicitor to get things tied up ASAP but I think she is getting irritated with me emailing and following up with a telephone call at least once a week.

Is a couple of times a week too much??

you can contact them every hour if you want, you are paying. If she wants you to stop chasing, a simple solution is to pull her finger out and get things moving.

people in business are taught how to 'manage expectations'. Solicitors should be well used to stressed buyers/sellers and should know how to help.

As a solicitor dealing with private individuals rather than companies I can tell you that the people who get their work sorted quickest are the ones who nag/check up. It just automatically goes to the top of the pile because you can't be arsed dealing with them.

I do manage their expectations tho and if I don't think I can deal with something for 3 days I tell them.

The best clients are the ones who are organised, proactive, non whingy and pay what needs paying on time. So if you're those things and a chaser you will see results, assuming you have a decent solicitor.
