Painter and decorator cost

I'm thinking of paying someone to decorate my lounge. It's c. 10ft x 10ft. I'm in Gloucestershire. My house is modern having been built in 1995. Being of that era it has a lovely border around the top of the wall which would need removing. Other than that it would be emulsion painting maybe a wall of papering and gloss work. What would the cost of that be do you think?

Our decorators are between £170-£220 per day plus materials on top.

One has just done a kitchen which was about 18x11ft, and he was there 5 days (lots of archways, door ways, fireplaces, fitted shelves, which will has more time of course). If it's simple room allow 2 days.

My Dad is a painter and decorator- he charges around £16 an hour, not including materials.

obviously it depends on how much you are willing to do yourself, for example, preparation such as sanding and filling any holes etc is simple to do yourself and would obviously bring the time and therefore the cost down.

I pay £150 a day plus paint. An average room in our 3 bed semi is around £250 for prep, painting walls and wood work.
