Do you hear from the solicitors of the house you are buying (no EA involved)?

We are buying a house privately so no EAs involved.

I spoke to the vendor a couple of weeks ago as she wanted to instruct solicitors now. I said that was fine but we were still waiting on certain confirmation about our buyer before we could instruct ours. That's sorted and we have now instructed.

After my conversation with her about instructing the solicitors, she sent me a text a few days later asking if I had heard from them. I hadn't and still haven't.

She has suffered a bereavement so I don't want to hassle her (but I know she is already starting to move out). Should I have heard from her solicitors? I didn't think I would have actually. I got all the paperwork from mine last week and sorted out all the stuff I needed to over he weekend but I know they won't have contacted my buyer as they don't have his details, but that is through an EA so may be different.

Her solicitor will correspond with your solicitor, not you as they need to ensure everything is legally correct and look after their clients interests. Check with your solicitor if you have any concerns. If could be that your solicitor has written confirming that they are acting for you and the other side are gathering in all the information they need to provide to him/her.

We haven't heard much from our solicitor during our selling/buying process - just two very long detailed letters including copy search results and one short email in response to some queries I raised on boundaries, availability of guarantees and something which was raised on our mortgage.

Our own soliictor liaises with our buyers solicitors (and our sellers solictors) We have had very little contact with our buyers and sellers directly.

Ok so I shouldn't have done then. That's fine.

Will my solicitors ask who the vendors solicitors are as there are no EAs to ask? They haven't yet. They know who the EAs are for our sale so I know they can find out the info they need there.

Just very paranoid that something will go massively wrong (read too many threads on here Grin).

your solicitors can't start things until they know who the other solicitor is, so you need to get that information for them. Then they talk to each other and your solicitor talks to you.

keep nagging them as otherwise they go to sleep.

As above, your solicitor talks to vendors solicitor and it proceeds through that channel. You then get reports from your solicitor and the vendor from hers/his.
