one of our neighbours have peacocks...shortly after moving in to our house, i was surprised to find 8 of them pecking around in our garden, including a few white ones.

they make a lot of noise (seemingly at any time of day/night, especially if they are unexpectedly disturbed), and a great deal of mess. i have also heard (although not witnessed it yet) that they can make quite a mess of shiny cars, but climbing up on them with their sharp claws, and sometimes attacking their own reflections.

they do look amazing when displaying, though.

perhaps a nice idea if you have >10 acres of land, and they are far away from any bedrooms/cars!

As for the 'item' - little buggers they are, I'd sooner it didn't come with the cottage!! Grin

We moved to a house with four of these when I was seven. They make a horrible squawky noise, particularly at dawn and dusk, they do huge poos indiscriminately, the males will display at anything they think is another male - including their own reflections in shiny surfaces. They will also try to mate with anything they think is a female. Including children's ride-on toys. Once with a child already riding on it. They're not very good at flying and one of them once flew into my brother's head.

Apart from that.... Seriously cute cottage!

Bridgeofwhys, it looks like ours did when we moved in here... Hadn't been mown in living memory, and swamped by inappropriately huge trees. Putting that garden right would be the least of my worries. I'd be saving my pennies to rethatch the roof, and to fix whatever they didn't want to photograph inside Wink

Lovely! Although yes, they are very noisy.
The cottage looks as if you would need to spend thousands and thousands of pounds to make it right. What exactly does it mean "the drainage is currently connected to a defective private system" for example? That sounds expensive to me!
If you did have the money though it could be absolutely beautiful.

Noisy buggers and the ones that used to frequent my friend's garden totally destroyed the paintwork on her parents' cars by scrabbling all over them.

The male also used to fan his tail and strut up the paddock when the horses were out with a 'come and have a go of you think you're hard enough' swagger.

Peacocks are bastards. My friend got marked outside and during the vows one strutted up the aisle, turned, faced the crowd and fanned its feathers, completely obscuring the bride and groom whilst squawking.

I swear it stood at the back and planned it.

I find the pheasants we got with our house are noisy and arrogant (obviously they own the place not us) enough for me, anything bigger would be rather annoying in the long term I think.
As for the house - Very romantic moneypit me thinks.
