Carnforth

Does anybody live in or know Carnforth in Lancashire? We are relocating up that way but had mainly been looking at houses in South Cumbria so I haven't checked out Carnforth at all, but have spotted a fab house there. Anyone know if it's a nice little town?
Thanks!

I grew up in Levens. Sleepy little village. Very pretty. And I went to school at dallam!

seriously OP, if you have that kind of budget there so many lovely little villages to choose from. Carnforth is pretty unspectacular in comparison.

Anywhere within 15 miles of Dallam is more than commutable. You don't get traffic jams round there, it is open road pretty much all around unless you are heading into Lancaster or Kendal.

Wow - thanks everyone! Just to clarify... That lovely house in Carnforth is at the very upper limit of our budget. We had actually made an offer on a house in Storth, but the offer has neither been accepted nor rejected because we don't have a buyer for ours yet. So I'm still looking at houses as we are not committed on the Storth one. (I can't seem to link to Rightmove on my phone but the house is prob the inly one in Storth on at £335 000).

Thanks for your comments about Carnforth - I kind of suspected that might be the case! I think we won't pursue that one further.

I appreciate the comments about distance too. That's why we have widened our search a bit, but would still ideally like to be in cycling distance of dh's school (as the house in Storth very much is).

Thanks for the links to the lovely houses! Some we have probably rejected because of distance. The other thing is that we are keen to live in a village or small town. That house in High Sampool near Levens is a bit far from a shop/pub etc. Dh is keen for the dc not to be isolated so they can make friends and play out etc without being driven all over the place. Annoyingly, the loveliest (and best value) houses seem to be the ones stuck out in the middle of nowhere!

Anyway, thank you all so much for your help. It's always good to have local knowledge - MN is great for this kind of thing. I'll go and look at the rest of those house links now...
p.s. Feel free to critique the Storth house! It's not as grand as some of those barn conversions out on their own but I really like it! Smile

Sorry for the epic post!

I agree, I'd look between Carnforth(but not including!) , Kendal and Kirkby I don't think there is anywhere in that search area that I wouldn't like to live in.
Most villages have a lovely community spirit and although they may have not much more than a shop and a pub you so get used to driving to where you want to be rather than walking down your local high street.

Just wondering if you made the move to car forth. We are in the same position, thinking about moving from Kent and looking at secondary schools. Any advice would be appreciated
