Clever people redesign my kitchen/ utility/ dining please!

Posted on Houzz but no replies so am hoping you ladies have your best thinking hats on! Have NC to try and give more details.

We are hoping to do a 2 storey extension at front of our house. Main driver is to give me a decent utility/ laundry room as current one is pitiful for our troop of young kids. I'd also like a playroom for their copious amounts of plastic crap. The current dining room is very dark, and the kitchen is effectively a galley kitchen due to large island being too close to opposite work surface.

I love those big open plan family/ dining/ kitchen but can't quite see how best to achieve it. We would look to extend forwards about 4-5m in front of the hall/ dining room/ utility (there's a garage in front of the loo that I haven't drawn).

Any ideas would be great, thank you!

Hi - sometimes it can be virtually impossible to get extensions to the front of a property passed - so my suggestion would be you chat with your local planning dept BEFORE you get your hopes up ! Sorry I missed it on the other site ! Been busy this week as was off last week !!!

NB - for you and anyone else posting on that site - if you add a link to your dilemma into the UK chat thread that can be found in the 'others ' section - then the Brits that are on there will start off your dilemma for you - otherwise it can sometimes get lost amongst all the others ! Another tip is to add your dilemma after lunch as that's when most of America wakes up ! Last tip add your dilemma - then add a post to it - this gets it into the active section !! ( tried looking for yours - but couldn't find it ?! If you post a link on here or on UK chat bit I will give it a bump !! )

Thanks OnePlan, you were recommended by another poster on there! I didn't know there was a UK section, will try and find it. It's got lovely houses on it but does seem predominantly American.

Building out front shouldn't be a problem as we are on a road where all the houses are different, the building line is definitely beyond what we would do, and both our neighbours have come forward beyond us. But you definitely raise a good point and I will look into it.

DH is worried (boringly, rightly) still a bit unsure if we go for it, or try and rearrange our current furniture and living arrangements. Still won't solve the problem of how I do 3 loads of washing a day and where to put it!

And how dare you try and have a life outside the Internet
