Not proffessional, but this will bump it for you.... I took against DP's curtains, and dyed them to match the bedding, from yellow to purple. Curtains dyed fine, the thread did not 'take' the dye in the same way, and is now paler, whereas before, the thread was the same colour, and didn't stand out.

I dyed loose settee covers from burgundy to navy, they died perfectly, you would never know. The one that was in the sunlight did fade a bit after a couple of years, I could have died it again for a tenner, but replaced anyway when I decorated. I say go for it!

Just be aware that the lining will be dyed too. If its at the front of the house it might look odd from the outside.
