Where to move to? (commuting to Waterloo, good schools)

Have lived in NW1 for the last years and the time has come now to move out. I want something bigger and leafier, but that is well connected to come into work each day.

Ideally, I would like a (min) 2 bed flat with private garden and the following features

  • max 30 min commuting distance to waterloo / waterloo east
  • good schools (primary)
  • nice "villagey" high street

Max budget around £1300.

Can you think of anything? Thanks!

Have a look at Hither Green - direct line to Waterloo East, v good schools and close to park etc.

Thanks lucidlady!

Also, how hard /easy would it be to get a place for a child in year 1? Could it be that we dont get a school place at all? :S

You may consider Kingston Upon Thames. I had been there for some years. Lovely town.

Excellent school catchment, shopping area, heritage, ....

~200meter walk to norbiton station, and within 30 mins. travel to Waterloo station.

At your budget, you may not have much selection. I note the following in zoopla. You may consider.

School spaces out this way are a bit of a nightmare tbh!

I would also consider West Byfleet, I would check on the school space situation first though. They have been increasing school sizes recently so the situation is improving.

Walton-on-Thames is 30 mins from Waterloo and has good local shops. You'll get more for your ££ than in Weybridge too (it's one stop nearer than Weybridge on the same line).

random mess, how to check the school space situation? thanks!

RandomMess · 14/04/2014 19:31

I wasn't sure if your child was currently in R or year 1, either way I think you will have to ring the school up and ask if they currently have places in the appropriate year and if they have a waiting list. Pyrford school took a bulge R class so hopefully it's not too bad at the moment.

They won't hold places for you though it's still a risk you would have to take.

ShoeWhore · 14/04/2014 20:32

manhillman if you call Surrey admissions they will let you know if particular schools have places and how many are on the waiting list etc.

We are planning to move to London. my children are 6&8.

thanks the above advice!
