Stain on worktop. Ikea grey laminate.

Just had a new Ikea kitchen fitted; it wasn't a pleasant experience. I finally finish the decorating and breathe a sigh of relief.
One day later a mark appears in the centre of the worktop, a couple of inches across and looks like a white cauliflower. We think it's where a potato was left for a few hours. We cannot shift it, anyone got any ideas. The 25Years guarantee is no consolation at the moment.

I can't believe that a potato would do that, laminate is very durable. I'd contact IKEA for their advice. I imagine they'll just replace it. Not to much hassle.

May I ask why it wasn't a pleasant experience...in the middle of fitting our own and all OK atm.

If it's a stain I'd get Ikea to replace it

Call Ikea bring a photo and your receipt.

Mrsladybirdface we had countless problems mainly due to us ordering our kitchen without knowing that Ikea was a about to change the whole kitchen range. We used their fitters and had to wait months.
Countless wrong deliveries and phone calls (hours wait each time).
Worktop was made to order and fitted before we saw it and it was the wrong one. The fitters were great and had to saw up cabinets to fit, they had to leave it half done for a couple of weeks.
At one point it felt as though we were living in the Croydon store.

The units are OK but it has taken six months and now this mark has appeared on the worktop we didn't even order. I have actually cried at the thought of them dismantling the kitchen to replace it.

And breathe.....

oh gods sounds like a complete nightmare, I don't know why couldn't make their new range compatible, right pain with the 25 year guarantee. Angry

We have the ikea grey laminate worktop, its been in 3 years. Rusty pans stain it but neat bleach left overnight has always shifted the stain. Ours looks great still. Ikea will replace it but it might take a few weeks. We had our (excellent) fitters accidentally drill a hole in the wrong place in one cupboard door and they did come back to replace free of charge.

Bitofkipper · 11/04/2014 10:53

ililemysleep I didn't try bleach because the stain is white if you see what I mean. Have applied neat bleach half hour ago and the stain is now bright orange so something is happening.
Fingers crossed, kill or cure. Many thanks, I'll update later.

Hasn't worked I'm afraid. Two ten hour bleach applications and it looks exactly the same after turning orange then yellow. Lots more marks appearing now including one where a cup was standing. Baby oil masks it a bit.
Oh well, back to Ikea.
