We are buying a new build.

Walls are white, not even cream just stark white. We are not a white walls kind of family, our current home is a glorious mess of purples and teals and and gold and we love it, it's just too small.

Please give me some design ideas to work with to make our style work with the style of the house, we can't do anything to the walls for at least six months.

We haven't chosen carpets yet but I am tempted to go with cream as anything darker will just highlight the white walls, is this right do you think? Our current furniture is mostly ikea and Next and a brown leather sofa which I think is all going to look really stark against a white backdrop.

Help me, I feel a bit overwhelmed.

large or lots of pictures, colourful cushions, curtains, throws? lighting? candles give a nice glow too.
I use google images a lot when looking for decorating ideas.

I like white, but not in every room. also like purples and gold too.
I always go for dark cream or minky coloured carpet as its not too light or dark.

I'm concentrating on getting the garden sorted now, would that help? until you can decorate.

I would go for lighting neutral carpets too.
Maybe even the 'reed' type to add a bit of warmth.

6 months will fly by and by that time you will really know what colours you want to decorate and might have changed some prices of furniture by then anyway.
