Silly tap problem

I am a bit Blush about this but can't work out what the problem is from the internet... advice gratefully received.

Our cold tap has started swivelling round a bit - the whole tap - I can still turn it on if I hold the base. Do I need a new washer, or a whole new tap? Is replacing either one something I can do (DH a little bit useless at DIY) or do I need to call in a plumber? And will it be expensive?

Thanks in advance.

you dont need a new washer or tap
Under the surface the tap sits on ( kitchen worktop? sink?) there is a screw on wide nut that engages the bit of the tap that sticks down into the surface. This needs tightened.
Easy peasy, access is the hardest part

You will need a basin wrench to access the holding nut at the bottom. I’ve got this Rothenberger for almost 20 years and it has more than paid for itself by now.

Thanks both - I will ask my Dad if he has one (he normally is a good source of kit!)
