Recessed shelf in shower

Our builder has started making this without asking us where we want it and he's put it directly behind the fixed pole that holds up the shower rather than offset. He's also made it very long and says that we should have a glass shelf inside splitting the height.

Somehow it just seems wrong - but I've never had one before.

What's your experience please

Hi we had one put in ours when we had our main bathroom done. It is enough for about six bottles. It is tiled, no shelf . the plumber asked where we wanted it, which is below the shower-no obstructions. It is about 12 inch square and the bottom of it is about waist height . It looks good and is useful and friends/family have copied it.

is it still at plasterboard stage? You could ask him to change it.

oh and why don't you google image some, to give you a better idea ?

Its a good idea but make sure its properly tanked and he gets the falls right else its a disaster waiting to happen

I think it's a great idea too but he's put a 900 x 300 indent immediately behind where the fixed shower rail is going to be.

I find it hard to visualise things but feel I'd rather have two smaller recesses. It feels too busy behind the shower rail and too big. Perhaps too easy too as our tiles are 900 x 300.

It sounds like it may be in the wrong place. Can't see it being useful behind the shower rail. I would say something now, you shouldn't have to put up with it, and no doubt you are paying loads for a lovely new bathroom.

Sounds wrong to me. Will look odd I think.

So we've spoken to our builder and agreed it doesn't look right. The only place really available for the recess is underneath where the pole for the shower ends and then a shelf a bit underneath that again.

So, the recesses are going to be in the lower half of the shower. Is that okay or should we just forget it?

I would like to keep the shampoo bottles off the floor but I don't know if this is going to look right. Thoughts very welcome.

The shower enclose is a 800 x 1000 offset quadrant with a sliding door.

Has anyone seen shower recesses on the lower half of the shower wall? Been looking at Houzz etc and they all seem up in the top half. Will it look daft?
