any tips for maximising the space in a tiny kitchen greatly appreciated please :)

We are about to fit a kitchen in a property we will live in for a couple of years max, it needs to be cheap but the room is tiny.
There is an awkward wall where i would like to put a breakfast bar so I dont have to have the dcs sat in another room to eat (living/dining room is massive and plenty big enough for a dining table for us all to eat at when we all eat together but it is two rooms away from the kitchen)
So could do with any little tips anyone has for maximising every inch of space please. Our kitchen at the min is huge! I need to remind myself it isnt forever!

Could you get a fold down table that fixes to the wall? That might save space. Also lots of shelves, put a shelf above the door to store cookbooks or whatever.

What size is it? You can use tall wall cupboards as floor cupboards - so they're good for storage but not jutting out too much. Have a play on the ikea kitchen planner tool. It's free.

Try hanging pots/pans from the ceiling. Use the tallest wall cupboards you can. Or try having a tall cupboard fitted into the worktop to get more cupboard space like this on the right of the picture.

When we were first married, we lived in a flat with a tiny kitchen. We kept all non-essential items in the bedroom, under the bed, and in a large cupboard in the hallway. eg casserole dishes we only used once a month or so, posh wine glasses etc. That way we needed less storage in the kitchen. Could you free up some space by doing this? Lose a cupboard out of the kitchen which might give you space for a little fold up/ pull out table instead.

If you can avoid cupboards at the top it will look more spacious-less deep shelves with nice storage jar things & plates on the shelf. Yes, put it all in the dining room-get a 2nd hand dresser or something. Ikea does a table that folds up the wall like a caravan-it's great

If you fit units on your walls, make sure you leave enough room above them so you can get baskets or other storage up there.

Actually i love thedresser in the dining room idea, there is bloody loads of space in there!
And i didnt think to not have as many wall cupboards, i agree thdy make it very enclosed.
I have the measurements of the room somewhere actually, its awkward because there are two doors, one into the room and one external door onto a balcony, also the washing machine has to be in there because we cannot move the drainage.

I think i might take a trip to ikea actually, i designed the room on the kitchen planner a while ago, i might have a look at it again.

Or get extra talk wall cupboards that go right up to the ceiling. Squat wall cupboards with clutter on top will gather dust and look untidy.

I think a slim larder cupboard for all dry food is so much easier than food in five different cupboards if there is space somewhere.
