So - bathroom lighting...

New bathroom being fitted. We have a hideous false pine ceiling with recessed lights.

I've painstakingly painted the ceiling a milky white and it looks ok.

Plumber has just told me that the shower we have chosen for over the bath (no room for walk in) is too tall for the ceiling!

So - he can rip the ceiling out, plaster board and skim to get the right height. However, I don't think there is enough clearance for recessed lighting.

So - what other lighting can I use? Or shall I suck it up and get a different shower?

when we had our main bathroom done we did away with the recessed lights and had the ceiling skimmed over then had a spotlight with 3 lights on it put up instead. I looked everywhere but ended up at b and q there was loads of choice and it was only £30 ish and really nice. I wouldn't change the shower, as I would consider that to be more important than the ceiling.

Is there no loft space above the bathroom for lights? Is it a flat roof?

We have used chrome surface mounted spot lights in a bathroom but do check how close they will be to the shower. I think if they are within 600mm they are not allowed even if they are bathroom rated ones. If they are too close you have to go for an in-shower type one. The electrician will give you the details but I would be inclined to go for re plastering. Such a shame your hard work has gone to waste. We also have lights on our mirrored cupboard which is brilliant.

Turns out there is clearance cos they can utilise the loft! Why didn't I think of that?!
So - ceiling came out today and they've skimmed already. Lecci coming on Monday to fit new, nicer than before recessed lights.

I'm beginning to be really excited :)
