Sliding patio doors - side light/fanlight (window to leave open at night)

We're having sliding patio doors installed across the full width of our kitchen and wondering what people do about leaving a window open at night? Is it an "all or nothing" kind of situation??

I didn't think there was anyway we could incorporate a window but was hoping someone would come up with a good idea.
