Clear varnish over spray paint?

Hi, I've spray painted part of my kids toy kitchen but wanted to use a spray varnish / topcoat to seal if as the colour transfers a bit....is this possible or will it ruin my hard work getting a great finish?!

It's wickes silver spray paint and wickes satin spray varnish - poor kid in wickes looked totally baffled at first then said "yeah yeah sure it's fine" - convincing. Not.

clear lacquer over metallics is totally normal in cars and wheels.

I expect it will work with the Wickes, which is probably made by, or a copy of, Plasticote. Have a look for their website.
